Patients should drink plenty of clear fluids and morning of procedure.
Bring all ultrasound scans with you to the hospital.
No solids/food to be consumed 6 hours prior to your procedure.
Day Stay Diagnostic Angiography:
Patient must have someone to go home to.
Interventional Angiography, i.e. Balloon Angioplasty, Stents, Coils:
Length of stay in hospital = 1 night.

Post op – After the angiogram patients need to lay flat for 4 hours to reduce bleeding from the groin unless a vascular closure device has been used in which case you can walk in 30 minutes
Post Angiography:
It is common to have a small amount of bruising in the groin area and some minor discomfort. There is a small risk of bleeding that manifests as progressive pain, progressive swelling or of course bleeding from the puncture site.
If any of the following occurs please contact Mr Holdaway:
Foot becoming pale.
Numbness.
Ongoing pain that progressively worsens.
Have not passed urine 16 hours after the procedure.
If you are taking Warfarin:
For atrial fibrillation (AF), Warfarin should be stopped 5 days prior to procedure.
Mechanical Heart Valves or post blood clots in legs or lungs - Warfarin needs to be weaned off under cover of short acting blood thinner called Clexane.
Diabetic Patients prior to Angiography:
If you are taking the tablet, Metformin, you need to stop taking these 24 hours prior to your procedure.
